Summary

European Telework Week (ETW) is the focal point of many activities that go on throughout the year promoting the understanding of Telework and its considered implementation. The 3rd European Telework Week will be organised in November 3-10, 1997, again with the support of DGXIII.

The Information Day focused on the rationale, planning and framework conditions for ETW1997 (3 - 10 November) in the context of EU policy towards new ways of working. An outline of the European Assembly on Telework and New Ways of Working (24 - 26 September in Stockholm) was presented, as well as the categories of best practice cases for which individuals and organisations are invited to submit contributions. There were also short presentations from EC representatives on Telework Standards (DG III Industry), the Green paper on Work Organisation (DG V Employment, Industrial Relations and Social Affairs) and Trans European Networks / Telecoms (also DG XIII).

80 participants, interested in developing or supporting events and activities during or leading up to ETW were welcomed, alongside representative organisations like the European Trade Union Confederation and EURADA, Commission Staff involved in Telework, European projects with a focus on telework, national event co-ordinators from previous years, and other key actors.

The approach towards ETW was generally well appreciated. It was suggested to explore the possibility to provide some ìlanguage assistanceî. Another suggestion was to focus, when appropriate, on content debates to contribute to the public concertation on the Green paper ìPartnership for a new organisation of workî.

Plans for ETW97 events in 6 countries were already committed.

A swift follow up of the Information Day was promised, including a full list of participants and provision of updated information on the WEB site http://www.eto.org.uk/etw97/index.htm, kept updated by European Telework Development, the project supported by DG XIII to facilitate European Telework Week, for which the project assigned Mr. Ian CULPIN as Co-ordinator.
